ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Returning to action for their spring season, the Newberry College men's golf team finds themselves in a tie for sixth place at the 2023 Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial at St. Johns Golf and Country Club.
The Wolves were able to post a two round score of 586 (+8) that sits tied with North Georgia in the sixth spot on the leade rboard. Anderson currently leads the field with a score of 567 (-9), the lone team under par in the tournament. In a field with seven other South Atlantic Conference teams, the Wolves sit second among league squads.
Senior Alex Pillar (Hawley, Pa.) led the team on the day as he currently sits fifth overall with a two-round score of 141 (-3). He started the day with a two-under round in the morning before wrapping up the afternoon with a one-under round.
Freshman Javier Borrego Martin (Salamanca, Spain) sits even in the clubhouse after the opening two rounds, starting with a two-under round before carding a two-over round in the second. He currently sits tied for 13th overall. Fellow freshman Eric Nord (Blythewood, S.C.) sits just three strokes behind him in a tie for 28th after rounds of two and one-over, respectively on the day.
Sophomore Carlos Camaros-Ruiz (Madrid, Spain) sits in a tie for 64th after the opening day of action while sophomore Tom Hull (Spalding, England) is currently tied for 70th.
The Wolves return to the course tomorrow morning to wrap up the tournament with third round action slated for an 8:30 a.m. start.
