Scouting the Wolves:
• Newberry (1-5, 0-2 South Atlantic Conference) is in search of its first conference win of the season after falling in a road game versus UVA Wise on Saturday.
• In that contest,
Drake Downs scored a career-high 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting and a made free throw. Downs also added six rebounds for the game.
•
Caleb Byrd likewise reached double digits for the Wolves with his 11 points and three assists.
•
Jalen Johnson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds against the Cavs, raising his team-leading season average to 6.7 per game.
Scouting the Saints:
• Limestone (3-4, 2-0 South Atlantic Conference) comes to Newberry winners of its last three contests, including an 85-77 road win over Carson-Newman on Saturday.
• Against the Eagles, Sirr Hughes was perfect, making all seven of his shots – all 3-pointers – and making both free-throw attempts to finish with 23 points.
• Ayden Hickman wasn't far behind his teammate, as he sank 6 of 7 3-point attempts in a 20-point effort.
• In all, the Saints made 17 of 36 3s against Carson-Newman for a 47.2% clip, but it was something of an anomaly for a team that has made just 34% of such attempts this season.
