Preview: Men's Basketball Set for Non-Conference Matchup with Francis Marion; Wolves Partner with Newberry Young Professionals for H.U.G.S. Drive

NEWBERRY – The Newberry College men's basketball team returns to Eleazer Arena tomorrow (Nov. 29) for a 7 p.m. non-conference game against Francis Marion. The Wolves will be partnering with Newberry Young Professionals and their H.U.G.S. drive for this game – if fans bring a new and unopened hat, underwear, gloves or socks they will get into the contest for FREE.

Scouting the Wolves:
•    Newberry enters Wednesday's matchup after losing a closely fought battle on the road against Elizabeth City State last Tuesday.
•    Against the Vikings, senior Jalen Johnson scored a season-best 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting and added eight rebounds. Johnson leads the Wolves in scoring (12.7 points per game) and rebounding (7.7 per game).
•    Caleb Byrd also poured in a season-high 16 for the Wolves against ECSU, shooting 5 for 10 on the night including a perfect 5 of 5 effort at the free-throw line.
•    The Wolves showed a presence inside, outscoring the Vikings in the paint 32-28.

Scouting the Patriots:
•    Francis Marion enters tomorrow's game on a three-game losing streak, including a 107-94 road loss to Wingate last Wednesday.
•    The Patriots were led by Tionne Rollins' 31 points and three steals in the game. Rollins shot 8 of 16 from the floor and 6 of 10 from 3-point range while making all nine free-throw attempts.
•    Bryce Beamer, who leads FMU in scoring with 24.8 points per game, had 24 against the Bulldogs. He shot 10 of 17 and made a pair of 3s.
•    Though Francis Marion leads the Conference Carolinas in scoring (98.3 points per game), contrarily the Patriots allow the most points per game to opponents (100.5).
