Women's Basketball Picked 11th in SAC Preseason Poll

ROCK HILL, S.C.- The South Atlantic Conference announced its 2023 Women's Basketball Preseason Poll today, and Newberry was voted No. 11 by head coaches in the conference. The Wolves collected 37 points in the poll.  

In the lead of this year's preseason poll is Catawba with 10 first place votes and 141 points, in second is Carson-Newman with two first place votes and 124 points.  

During the Wolves 2022-23 season they went 8-20 overall and 4-14 in SAC play. The Wolves had the toughest strength of schedule in the region, while defeating two top 15 teams in the country, Catawba, and Lenoir-Rhyne.  

The Wolves return four players who played in 20 or more games last season including two starters Payton Cronen and Ella Pearson. Cronen averaged 7.2 points per game and shot the team best 42% from beyond the arch last season.  

The Wolves open their season at home Nov. 10-11 hosting the Southeast Regional Challenge. Tip off Friday against North Greenville is set for 5:00.
