BRISTOL, TENN. – The Newberry College wrestling team had five champions and 11 wrestlers who finished in the top three in the King Open Saturday at King University.
Devan Moore was the first champion of the day for the Wolves at the 149 lb class. Moore avenged his loss against Demetri Teddlie of King last night in the championship winning by a 3-1 decision.
The second champion of the day was in the 174 lb class where
Andrew Reed defeated King's Brad Mahoney in a 21-4 tech fall.
In 184,
ZeBrandon Gant defeated Clinton Morrisette from King for the second time in 24 hours with a 7-1 decision to become the third champion of the afternoon.
At 197,
John Parker pinned his way to the finals where he defeated UNC Pembroke's Christopher Dickey by a 5-1 decision.
The final champion of the day was
Devon Rice in the 285 lb class. Rice defeated UNC Pembroke's Massimo Sullivan by a 7-1 decision.
The Wolves had two second place finishers in
Ben Guilliam at 133 and
Will Evans at 157. The third-place finishers included
Dennis Virelli at 149, PJ Wunderlich at 157,
Asa Walton at 165, and
Jacoby Benjamin at 184.
The Wolves will be back in action two weeks from today as they host Life University in a non-conference dual match at Eleazer at 3:00 P.M.
