NEWBERRY – The Newberry College women's basketball team (1-1) defeated the Bulldogs of Barton College (0-2) 74-59 this afternoon in Eleazer Arena.
The Wolves outscored the Bulldogs 41-22 in the second half shooting 71.4 % from the field in the fourth quarter.
The Wolves had four players in double figures.
Jess Tomkins and
Payton Cronen led the way, each posting 17 points on the afternoon.
April Rummery-Lamb scored 14 points and grabbed a team high seven rebounds. DeShona Gaither added a spark from the bench, scoring 11 points and knocking down three three-pointers.
The Wolves and Bulldogs exchanged blows in the first half ending the half with a 34-33 Bulldogs lead.
The Wolves marched out of the break behind eight third quarter points from Rummery-Lamb to take a 48-43 lead off a three pointer by
Payton Cronen to end the third quarter.
The Wolves would finish strong in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 26-16 ending the game on a 6-0 run to win 74-59
Junior guard
Julia Paoletta had an efficient second half scoring eight points all in the fourth quarter, dishing two assists and two steals while not turning the ball over at the point guard position.
The Wolves (1-1) are back home Wednesday evening as they host the Patriots of Francis Marion University in Eleazer arena at 5:00 p.m.
