HICKORY, N.C. – Paying a visit to Lenoir-Rhyne for a South Atlantic Conference matchup, the Newberry College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on Saturday evening.
Newberry (3-7-2, 1-6-2 SAC) registered nine shots throughout the game, including three on goal.
The Bears got on the board early in the 6th minute, utilizing a free kick opportunity to nab a 1-0 lead.
Henok Awoke looked to respond in short order with two chances on net for the Wolves in the ninth and 13th minutes that were thwarted by the Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper.
LR added another goal in the 15th minute to take a 2-0 lead that stood the rest of the way.
The Wolves made a push down the stretch starting with a
Santiago Castano shot in the 72nd minute that hit the crossbar and nearly made it a one-goal game.
Ethan Orozco tried heading one in in the 76th minute but couldn't get it past the opposing goalie.
Newberry will reset before playing another road game next Friday (Oct. 27) against the Mars Hill Lions in a 7:30 p.m. start.
