Wolves Battle in 2-1 Road Loss to Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – Trimming a 2-0 halftime deficit with an early second-half goal, the Newberry College men's soccer team battled hard but couldn't register another score as they fell 2-1 to host Mars Hill on Friday night.

Scoring the Wolves' goal was Ethan Orozco in the 52nd minute thanks to a Justin Wolfe assist. Orozco now has four goals on the campaign which is the second most on the team, and Wolfe tallied his second assist on the play.

With it becoming a one-goal game, the defenses took control of the contest and the Wolves had to wait until the 80th minute to get another shot off, Orozco missing high.

Ferran Macian took shots in the 88th and 89th minutes but was unable to even the score as the Wolves lost 2-1 after 90 minutes.

Mars Hill got on the board early, scoring at the 4:58 mark of the first half on a penalty kick after a Wolves' yellow card. The Lions followed that up with another goal in the 20th minute as they took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Goalkeeper Jacob Cotton made three saves on five shots faced. The Wolves were able to take 12 shots throughout the game, three of which came on net.

Newberry returns to the Smith Road Complex on Wednesday (Nov. 1) for the final game of the season against Anderson. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
