NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Wolves Volleyball team defeated the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University in five sets this evening for their senior night!
Tonight's match was a nail biter till the very end. The Wolves trailed behind the Railsplitters through the first set until they gained the lead with the help of a kill from Madison Watson to make the score 22-21. The Wolves closed the first set with back-to-back kills from Samantha Shaffer, finishing the set 25-22.
The second set the Wolves got an early start with a four-point lead until the Railsplitters crept back up to tie 6-6. The set was neck and neck until the Wolves took the lead with the help of two kills from Margaret McMahon, one from Kate Brown, and another from Annie Dill to make the score 21-17. The Wolves kept their momentum going to finish the second set 25-22.
The Wolves started out strong in the first set maintaining the lead up until 21-19 where the Railsplitters went on a run and took the set. The fourth set the teams went point for point until the Railsplitters were able to close the set with the score 25-22.
In the fifth set there was only one tie at 7-7 after that the Wolves took off gaining a three-point lead. The Wolves finished the set with the help of a kill from Samantha Shaffer with the score 15-10.
Career Highs
· Sophomore Samantha Shaffer recorded a new career high this evening with 18 kills and 15 digs.
· Senior Olivia Bradley recorded a new career high of 31 digs.
· Sophomore Annie Dill recorded a career high of 21 digs and and tied her career high of 4 kills.
Game Leaders
Samantha Shaffer led the Wolves with 18 kills, Taylor Hall with 10, and Kate Brown with six. Olivia Bradley, Anna Hapner, and Hall tagged one ace for the evening. Margaret McMahon and Madison Watson both with six blocks, Hall with four. Bradley led the pack with 31 digs, Dill with 21, and Shaffer with 15.
