Wolves Hit the Road to Face Nationally Ranked Queens Royals

Newberry opens up Conference play versus Queens

Newberry, S.C. - In just their second road game of the season, the Newberry Men's Lacrosse team heads to Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday (Mar. 5) to face No. 12 ranked Queens University of Charlotte (QU). Faceoff is slated for 1 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex.

MATCHUP HISTORY

Saturday's matchup will be the fourth meeting all-time between the two programs. Newberry looks to get their first win in program history over the Queens Royals. Their last meeting took place last season with Queens edging past the Wolves for a narrow, 12-10, victory in Charlotte, N.C.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

NEWBERRY


Newberry (NC) (2-1, 0-0 SAC) is 1-0 on the road this season as they open up conference play this Saturday against Queens. NC is averaging 14.6 goals a game this season while allowing opponents an average of 8.3 goals per game. The Wolves are fourth in the conference in shots per game, shooting 40.33 shots a game. They rank second in the SAC in shots on goal percentage with 71-percent, and first in clears, completing 42-50 (84-percent). 

Sophomore duo Mac Ryan (Lake Villa, Ill) and Baker Westmoreland (Charlotte, N.C.) lead the Wolves in goals with nine apiece through the first three games. Junior Scott Reed (Ontario, Canada) leads the team in assists, handing out 4 for the season so far. 

Sophomore Connor Bates (Boiling Springs, S.C.) has a team-leading 15 ground balls in three games.

QUEENS

No. 12 QU (3-0, 0-0 SAC) averages 17.6 goals per game this season, which is good for first in the conference while allowing opponents an average of 8.6 (3rd in SAC). The Royals are fourth in the conference in man-up goals with 11. 

Ewen Tyler leads the Royals in scoring with 13 goals and five assists to add to his stat line. 

LAST ACTION

Newberry Men's Lacrosse played their first nationally ranked opponent of the season two weeks ago (Feb. 19) as they hosted third ranked Indianapolis at Setzler Field. The Greyhounds bested the Wolves, 15-8, in a game that saw Westmoreland notch his first hat trick of the season, despite the loss. 

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The Newberry Men's Lacrosse team continues their two-game road swing as they head to Mount Olive, N.C. to take on the 17th ranked Mount Olive Trojans on Tuesday (Mar. 8) at 7 p.m.
