Men’s Lacrosse looks for 3-0 start as they host No. 4 Indianapolis

Wolves face first nationally ranked opponent of the season

Newberry, S.C. - In their second home game of the 2022 campaign, the Newberry Men's lacrosse team will face off against the fourth ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds on Saturday (Feb. 19) at Setzler Field. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.

MATCHUP HISTORY

Saturday's matchup will be the first meeting all-time between the two programs. Newberry looks to secure their first 3-0 start in program history. The Wolves also received 12 votes in this week's USILA Division II Coaches Poll.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

NEWBERRY


Newberry (2-0, 0-0 SAC) is cruising to start the season. The Scarlet & Gray are averaging 18.5 goals in their first two contests while holding opponents to an average of five goals. The Wolves have also scooped 82 total ground balls and caused 22 turnovers this season.

Sophomore Mac Ryan (Lake Villa, Ill) leads the Wolves in goals to start the year with eight in the first two games. 

Newberry put on a great defensive game last Saturday (Feb. 12) by defeating the Bobcats of Lees-McRae 22-7, in their home opener at Setzler Field. 

INDIANAPOLIS

University of Indianapolis (2-0, 0-0) enters Saturday's matchup ranked No. 4 by USILA's Division II Coaches Poll. The Greyhounds are averaging 12.5 goals per game to start this season and hold opponents to an average of nine goals. Indy caused 23 turnovers last Sunday (Feb. 13) in their win over Lake Erie. 

UI opened their season with a top 10 matchup as they faced the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears, who at the time were ranked no. 2. The Greyhounds outlasted the Bears by one-point to win 12-11, in their season opener.

Drew Billig leads the Hounds in scoring and assists, notching five goals and giving out seven helpers in the first two games.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Newberry Men's Lacrosse will hit the road for the second time this season to face No. 15 Queens University of Charlotte. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday (Mar. 5) at Dickson Field.
