Wolves Rank Second In Conference Carolinas Preseason Polls

Rice and Moore also listed as wrestlers to watch for upcoming season

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Newberry College Wrestling program's season is in full swing, but recognition was bestowed upon the team again as the Conference Carolinas has released their 2022-23 Preseason Poll. After results from last season and the previous success of the program, the Wolves appear on the polls in the number two spot behind the defending champion, Lander University.

Voted on by the head coaches of the league, the Bearcats may have been voted the top team, but Newberry would finish a close second behind them, as the top team in the conference received eight of the 11 first-place votes with 98 total points overall while Newberry would get two first-place votes with 91 in total.

Coinciding with the preseason polls, the conference also released their Wrestlers to Watch list with two Wolves receiving the distinction from the conference: seniors Devon Rice (285 lbs; Rock Hill, S.C.) and Devan Moore (149; Eaxley, Ga.).

The Wolves kick off Homecoming Weekend 2022 with the Annual Scarlet & Gray Intrasquad match at the Newberry Wrestling Facility at 4 PM before starting the season at the Southeast Open November 4 in Salem, Va.
