NEWBERRY, S.C. -- Newberry College Women's basketball team hits the road to face conference rival Queens University of Charlotte Wednesday night (Jan. 5) inside Curry Arena. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday's matchup will be the 24th meeting all-time between Newberry and Queens women's hoops. Their last face-off took place on December 8, 2021, with Newberry defeating the Royals 65-57 inside Curry Arena. Newberry (2-10) looks to get their first win of the new year and an even more needed win in conference play. The Wolves women head into Wednesday's game with eight players averaging five or more points per game. Junior Giulia Bongiorno (Rome, Italy) leads the way in scoring, rebounding, and assists averaging 8.4 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 2.2 APG. Redshirt Junior Tyla Stolberg (Brisbane, Australia) ranks second in team scoring, averaging 8.3 PPG through 12 games.Â

The Wolves' women are coming off a tough road loss at the hands of the Lander Bearcats (45-84) on New Year's Day at Horne Arena.
Junior Holly Davies led the wolves in scoring, with 10 points and four rebounds. Ericka Wiseley was also a key player, contributing seven points and four rebounds in the loss. Â

The Royals women's basketball team tries to avoid a three-game losing streak after ending 2021 with a 12-point loss (47-59) to Lincoln Memorial (LMU) on December. 18. Queens had two players score double-digits against LMU, with Kalaya Hall leading the scoring effort with 14 points and two steals. Jori Wilks scored 13 points, but the effort was not enough as the Royals fell short.
