NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry College sophomore
Rebecca Gibbons won the sixth singles match, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2, which secured a 4-3 conference victory over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Thursday afternoon.
The Wolves conceded the doubles point even though junior
Lucy Spice and junior
Amy Griffiths won 6-3 at third doubles.
In singles play with the Bears leading 1-0, junior
Judit Gonzalez Agud lost at first singles 1-6, 7-6, 5-7 and Spice lost 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 at fifth singles. Senior
Elisa Aguirre won at second singles, 7-6, 6-2, and Griffiths won 6-0, 6-4. Freshman
Ish Singh won her third singles matchup 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Gibbons' matchup was the last court in action as the overall match score was tied 3-3. She dropped the first set 4-6, but came back and won the next two 7-6, 6-2, winning the team point at sixth singles and putting Newberry over the top for a 4-3 final.
