COLUMBIA - The Newberry men's and women's track and field team had another excellent week at the USC Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina.
On the men's side,
Jeremiah Mack and Justin Rodgers set their personal bests in the 60 meters with times of 7.14 and 7.29 seconds, respectively. Three athletes set their personal best in the 200 meters, with
Kalyn Cook leading the pack with a time of 22.15. Mack ran 22.57 and
Tyrese Grant ran 23.75.
Casey Brown set a school record in the 400 meters with a time of 50.72 while
Elijah Fulmore also set a school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.32 seconds.
Freshman
Antonio Buchanan posted a personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 13.70 meters (44-11) and
Kegan Crowell posted a personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 13.35 meters (43-9.5). The dstance medley relay also set a school record to round out the records on the men's side.
On the women's side,
D'Arion Johnston set a personal best in the 60 meters with a time of 8.14 seconds. Charlotte and
Emma Johnson both set a personal best in the 200 with times of 26.67 and 26.90 seconds, respectively, while
Kensley Dantzler set a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:42.
Tashayna Flinch broke the school record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:31.48.Â
Three other records were set Saturday as
Emma Johnson set her personal best in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.61.
Kenia Smith broke her personal best time in the mile with a time of 6:05.21 while
Anne Bouwkamp broke the school record in the 5K with a time of 22:41.39.
The Wolves will look to continue their recent success as they will travel to Lexington, Va. to compete in the VMI Indoor Classic.
