Newberry, SC - The Newberry offense exploded for ten runs on 11 hits as the 15th ranked Wolves defeated Lincoln Memorial 10-3 Friday night in the opening game of their South Atlantic Conference series.
The Railsplitters would score an unearned run in the top of the first to take the early lead, but Newberry would respond with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Luke Orr would double to right-center to score Collin Allman and tie the game at one. Later in the inning, Kenny Bergman would single to center to score two more Wolves and make it a 3-1 game.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Aidan Baur would lead off the inning with a double off the center-field wall and later scored on a groundout by
Ian Clements to make it a three-run game.
Lincoln Memorial would answer with two runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 4-3 game. However, in the bottom half of the inning, Newberry would send 11 batters to the plate and score five runs to blow the game wide open. The Wolves would add another run in the eighth to take the seven-run victory.
Bergmann was 2-5 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Newberry offense.
Jack Harris was 2-5 with a run scored and RBI, while Orr drove in two runs.
Tomas Sorcia, Jr. (3-1) picked up the win allowing two earned runs on six hits and striking out six in six innings of work.
Matthew Campbell (1) recorded the save with three shutout innings of relief.
The two teams will conclude their series with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon.
