Wolves Offense Stays Hot in Series Sweep of LMU

Newberry Rallies from Eight Runs Down in Game One

Newberry, SC - Newberry scored ten unanswered runs in game one to erase an 8-0 deficit and take the 10-8 win over Lincoln Memorial and then held off the Railsplitters 7-6 in game two to complete the South Atlantic Conference series sweep.  

Game One
Lincoln Memorial would score two runs in the first inning, four in the third, and two in the fourth to take the commanding 8-0 lead.  The Wolves would start chipping away at the deficit in the bottom of the fourth.  Kenny Bergman would double to left-center to score Jack Harris, and then Ian Clements would double down the left field line to make an 8-2 game.  

In the bottom of the fifth, Collan Allman would single to lead off the inning, and Zachary Bailes would pinch-run for him.  After Zane Tarrance reached on an error an a sacrifice bunt, the base runners would advance on a balk, and Braylin Marine would single up the middle to score two and make it a four-run game.  

The Newberry offense would explode for five runs in the seventh to take a 9-8 lead.  Dalton Lansdowne would lead off with a single, and Bailes would draw a walk.  Tarrance would then lay down a bunt single to load the bases.  The runners would all move up on a wild pitch to make it an 8-5 game.  Luke Orr would then come off the bench and hit a two-run single to make it a one-run game.    An RBI single by Marine would score Orr and tie the game.  Later, Aidan Baur would put the Wolves up with a two-out RBI single through the right side.   The Wolves would add an insurance run in the eighth and held on for the win.  

Marine led the Newberry offense going 2-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.  Tarrance was 2-3 with two runs scored, and Clements was 2-4 with a double and RBI. 

Logan Pate (1-0) picked up the win allowing just one hit and striking out three in three and two-thirds innings of relief.  Quinton Driggers (2) recorded the save with two strikeouts in one and one-third innings of work.  

Game Two
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Harris would double down the left field line to score Tarrance.  Nick Butler and Harris would both score on back to back wild pitches to give the Wolves the 3-1 lead.  Newberry would make it a 6-1 lead in the second on an RBI single by Butler and a two-run triple by Harris.  

The Railsplitters would score three runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to cut the Wolf lead to one.  Newberry would get an insurance run in the fifth.  Harris would lead off with a walk and advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Baur.  Harris would then proceed to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Lincoln memorial error.  The run would be valuable as the visitors would make it a one-run game in the sixth.  Driggers would come into the game in the seventh with two runners on, and after a walk, he would get the strikeout to end the game and pick up his second save of the day.   

Harris led the Wolf offense going 2-2 with a double, triple, and two runs scored and three RBIs.  Tarrance finished the game 3-4 with two runs scored, while Butler had two hits and one run driven in.  

Jonathan Elicier (2-0) picked up the win, allowing one unearned run on four hits and striking out six in three innings of relief.
