#15 Newberry Pulls Away Late from #16 Nova Southeastern

Fort Lauderdale, FL - Fifteenth ranked Newberry scored four runs over the final three innings to take a 5-2 victory over sixteenth ranked Nova Southeastern Friday night in the series opener.

The Sharks would manufacture a run on one hit in the bottom of the first to take the early lead.  In the top of the fifth inning, Dalton Lansdowne would lead off with a walk, and then Collin Allman would single to left-center to put runners on first and second.  The runners would move up one base on a wild pitch, and then Lansdown would score on an infield single by Zane Tarrance to tie the game at one.

The Wolves would tie the game up in the top of the seventh when Allman would hit a two-out double to left and then score on Tarrance's second RBI single of the game.  In the eighth inning, Jack Harris would triple to left-center and scored on an infield single by Zachary Bailes to make it a 3-1 game.  Nova Southeastern would make it a one-run game in the bottom of the inning, but Harris would a two-run single to give the Wolves some breathing room.

Tarrance led the Newberry offense going 4-5 with two RBIs, while Allman was 4-5 with a double and two runs scored.  Harris finished the game 2-5 with a triple and two runs driven in for the Wolves.  Quinton Driggers (3-0) recorded the win allowing one run on four hits and striking out four in three and one-thirds innings of relief.  Starting pitcher Tomas Sorcia, Jr. allowed just one run on two hits and struck out nine in five and one-thirds innings.
