CULVER CITY, Calif. – Hannah Davis and
Haley Simonds have been named Honorable Mention Offensive All-Americans by Fastpitch News (FPN).
Davis had previously earned Honorable Mention All-America honors as a third baseman from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association and was a First Team All-Region selection by the D2CCA and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Simonds is a three-time First Team All-Conference and All-Region selection and was named a First Team All-American in 2017.
The FPN teams honor the best pitchers and offensive players in Division II this season regardless of position. The Newberry duo made up half of the four-player contingent from the South Atlantic Conference, all selected as offensive players on the Honorable Mention team. Mars Hill's Ragan Broome and Carson-Newman's Abby Fiessinger were the other two SAC players selected.
Davis led the SAC with 15 home runs and finished second with 54 RBI this season, with both figures leading the league at the end of the regular season. Her .875 slugging percentage ranked second in the league and she also finished in the top 10 in hit by pitches (3rd – 13), total bases (6th – 104), and on-base percentage (6th – .474).
The sophomore led the team with 15 multi-RBI games and reached safely in as many as 15 straight games this season. She also provided one of the most memorable moments of the year, smacking an opposite-field, walk-off home run to help Newberry to a sweep of Super Regional participant Anderson.
Simonds continued her incredible career at the plate in her junior season. She led the SAC with a .529 on-base percentage while setting or matching career bests in home runs (12), RBI (52), runs scored (29), slugging percentage (.798), walks (33), strikeouts (12), and sacrifice flies (6).
Her .385 batting average was eighth-highest in the SAC, one of eight categories in which she led the league. She had 15 multi-hit games and 14 with multiple RBI, including a 2-for-2 day against Alderson Broaddus that included both a two- and a three-run homer.
