HICKORY, N.C. – The Newberry track and field teams competed at the Lenoir-Rhyne Classic today as
D'Arion Johnston took home gold in the triple jump event.
In the Field:
D'Arion Johnston continued her impressive placings for the Wolves in field events as she placed first overall in the women's triple jump with a personal record mark of 11.57m. Johnston also placed second in the long jump with a mark of 5.38m, another personal record.
Elka Variste would also earn a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a 4.91m mark.
Gari Forehand broke two personal records today with a 10.20m throw in the shotput and a 27.21m mark in the hammer throw.
Rikaya Williams broke her personal record in the hammer throw with a mark of 33.75m while
Mya Stevens broke her personal record in the shotput with a 9.97m mark.
Kayshon Mitchell bounced back from last week to place sixth in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 42.11m, a personal record for Mitchell.
On the Track:
Anastasia Golson would break her personal record in the 100m with a time of 13.31.
Tashayna Flinch broke two personal records today, with a 1:01.91 time in the 400m and a 2:31.20 time in the 800m.
Tahleebah Martin would place sixth overall in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.96.
Anne Bouwkamp took eighth overall in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 13:55.12.
Newberry's 4x100 relay team composed of
Michael Parrish,
James Glenn,
Tyrese Grant, and
Cameron Henderson would tie for third with a time of 42.68.
Henderson took seventh overall in the 400m dash with a personal record time of 49.75. Glenn would compete in the 100m dash taking eighth overall with a time of 10.91. Both Glenn and Henderson would compete in the 200m dash as Glenn posted a 11th place finish in 22.39 while Henderson followed with a 13th place time of 22.54.
Elijah Fulmore continued his strong placings as he earned a sixth-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a personal record time of 15.28. Fulmore then placed fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.14.
Quinn Wilson broke his personal record in the 5000m run with a time of 16:02.00, good enough to place sixth overall in the event.
Shelton Reynolds also competed in the event, breaking his personal record time with a 16:44.64 finish.
Donald Smith broke his personal record in the 200m with a 23.99 time.

The Wolves will head to South Carolina for the Gamecock Invitational next Saturday, April 13th.
