WINGATE, N.C. – The Newberry women's lacrosse team fell to Wingate, 20-4 Saturday afternoon at Graham Gill Field.
The Wolves (2-11, 0-4 SAC) were led by
Chloe Wood and
Rachel Dillon, each netting a pair of goals.
Dillon got Newberry quickly on the board, scoring just over two minutes of action in the first half making it her 30th goal on the season. The Bulldogs quickly responded, scoring a goal just seconds later. From there, Wingate was able to take a 13-1 lead into halftime.
The Wolves looked to climb back into the second half as Dillon's second goal came in 26:36 left in the game to get her 31st goal on the year. Wood was able to keep the momentum going, scoring her first goal five minutes later off the free position attempt.
Wingate was able to stop Newberry's run of two goals with a goal from Kendall Wells to make it 15-3 in favor of the Bulldogs. Wood found the net for her other goal with under 15 minutes in regulation. This goal came off a free position as well. Wood now has 45 goals in her first season of action.
The Wolves had trouble containing the high-powered Bulldogs offense as they had 10 shots to Wingate's 36.
Adara Garner led the way on the defensive end, grabbing four ground balls and causing two turnovers.
Michelle Doby and Brady Bowman chipped in with three ground balls apiece.
Bowman earned the loss in net, making four saves in 23:41 of action.
Casey McCabe went the rest of the way for Newberry, making six saves.
The Wolves will be back home next Wednesday as they take on Queens at 3PM.
