Wolves offense struggles in loss to North Greenville

Moore scores two goals for Wolves, Dillon adds one

NEWBERRY – The Newberry Wolves (2-10) hosted a strong North Greenville Crusaders (9-5) side, and struggled to keep up with the visiting team, falling by a score of 18-3.

It was a rocky start for the Wolves, who allowed the first six goals of the game to belong to the Crusaders. Newberry's first goal didn't come until 13 minutes into the game, when Rachel Dillon finally broke through for her 29th goal of the season.

North Greenville tacked on another goal before Sophie Moore was able to get on the board for her first goal of the day, making the score 7-2, but it was the Crusaders who closed out the half strong. The visiting team found the back of the net for four more goals before the halftime break, pushing their lead to 11-2.

The Wolves looked to turn things around in the second half, but the Crusaders struck first to take their first double-digit lead of the day. Moore was able to respond a minute later off a nice pass from Chloe Wood to bring the Wolves back to within nine, but it was all Crusaders from then on.

The visiting team reeled off the game's final six goals to close out the evening with an 18-3 victory over the Wolves.

Moore led the way for Newberry with two goals while Dillon scored one of her own, but the Wolves were vastly outshot by a margin of 43-13. The Crusaders were also able to dominate in the circle, winning the draw control battle 15-8.

Brandy Bowman and Casey McCabe each spent 30 minutes in goal for Newberry, combining to make nine saves total.

The Wolves will look to put an end to their losing skid when they travel to Wingate, N.C. to take on South Atlantic Conference opponent Wingate on Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 pm.
