NEWBERRY – The Newberry women's tennis team fell to Anderson 5-2 Monday afternoon at the Oakland Tennis Center.
The Wolves (10-3, 0-1 SAC) were able to get one win in doubles action.
Amy Griffiths and
Lucy Spice were able to get the win over Cameron Blanchard and Hannah Weaver in a 6-4 match.
Frederike Klein got a win over Mirna Curcic with ease. Klein picked up the first set in a 6-1 fashion. Curcic was able to give Klein a little bit of a run in the second set but Klein prevailed with a 6-2 set win the capture the match.
Griffiths got Newberry's other point, defeating Jacqueline Olivia in two straight sets. It was a tightly contest but Griffiths came away with a 7-5 first set win and taking the second set, 6-4.
Elisa Aguirre had a hard defeat to Laura Dean. Aguirre got the first set, winning 6-4 before falling to two consecutive 6-4 sets.
Marta Gomar also found herself in a tight match against Hannah Weaver. Gomar got the win in the first set in a 6-2 fashion. Gomar fell 6-2 in the second set and was just edged out in the third set, 11-9.
The Wolves will be back in action this Wednesday as they take on No. 19 Queens at 2 p.m.
