AUSTIN, Texas – Shelby Britten has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team, the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) announced today.
Britten boasts a 3.85 grade point average while majoring in psychology. The Shepparton, Victoria, Austrailia native has been named to the dean's list each semester during her time at Newberry.
As a guard, Britten leads the team in assists per game with 4.54 and is second on the team averaging 14.6 points per game. The sharpshooter leads the conference in made 3-pointers this season with 68 overall. Britten also ranks second in Newberry history with 187 3-pointers and counting.
"Shelby is someone that takes a lot of pride in everything she does, in the classroom and on the court," interim head coach
Joanna Tincher stated. "I am very proud of her for this accomplishment, as it says a lot about her work ethic and priorities.
The senior is one of five student-athletes from the SAC. Britten joins Anderson's Alexy Mollenhauer as the only two student-athletes to be named to the All-District team in consecutive seasons.
Britten now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot where first, second, and third team (if applicable) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-March.
