Britten's career day propels Wolves to 95-88 road win over Lincoln Memorial

Five Wolves score in double-digits as Newberry picks up their fourth SAC victory of the season

HARROGATE, TENN. – Shelby Britten had a career day and five Wolves scored in double-digits as Newberry (10-1, 4-0 SAC) secured a 95-88 victory on the road over Lincoln Memorial (6-6, 3-3 SAC) on Saturday afternoon.

Britten scored a career-best 31 points on the day and tied her career-best with seven 3-pointers in the game. The senior was also a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe, converting two free throws in the final seconds to put the game out of reach for the Railsplitters.

The Wolves jumped out to an early 14-point lead after five straight 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the game.  Newberry extended their lead to as much as 18-points in the second quarter, thanks in part to Britten's 22 first half points.

Regan McCarty and Kelsey McDermott picked off where Britten left off at the start of the third quarter. McCarty scored six straight points to start the quarter when she made an and-one basket and free throw and a 3-pointer. McDermott also added five points, including a pump-fake baseline jumper to close out the quarter.

The Railsplitters relied on a full court press for most of the second half, leading to several Newberry turnovers and scoring opportunities for Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters eventually trimmed the Newberry lead to 79-77 with under five minutes to go in the game.

Newberry took advantage of Lincoln Memorial's fouls and converted four straight free throws to push the lead back to six. The Railsplitters final opportunity to take the lead came after a 3-pointer in the final minute cut the lead to five. Britten earned her first 30-point game of her career after making two free throws with 16 seconds left and the Wolves left Harrogate, Tenn. with their 10th win of the season.

McDermott ended the game with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 11 points in the second half. McCarty also finished the game with 15 points and scored 11 in the second half as well.
