SALISBURY, N.C. – The Newberry women's basketball team defeated the Catawba Indians 76-68 on Wednesday evening at Goodman Gym.
The Wolves shot over 50% from the field as a team with
Shelby Britten leading the hot-shooting to start the game as the senior dropped three 3-pointers in the first quarter.
Taylor Campbell took over scoring duties in the second quarter, continuing the barrage of 3-pointers, as the freshman scored eight points including back-to-back trey's off the bench for the Wolves.
Despite extending the lead to as much as eight in the first half, foul trouble for the Wolves allowed the Catawba Indians several opportunities from the charity stripe resulting in a 41-39 halftime score in favor of Newberry.
The Catawba Indians stayed close with the Wolves following halftime and eventually took a five-point lead entering into the fourth quarter. That's when Newberry's defense buckled down and
Kelsey McDermott took over.
The Wolves forced three turnovers while going on a 9-0 in the first three minutes of the fourth and never looked back. McDermott found her way to the basket several times leading to easy buckets as the junior scored 10 of her 13 points in the final seven minutes of the game, leading the Wolves to the season sweep over Catawba.
Britten ended the game as the leading scorer with 16 points while recording four assists and four boards. McDermott added four assists and five boards to go with her 13 points while
Regan McCarty added 10 points.
Meg Essex finished with a near double-double with eight points and nine boards.

- Campbell scored a career-high eight points off the bench for the Wolves
- Ke'shaun White added a career-high five points in her second career start
- Britten's 57 total 3-pointers this season is the 8th most in a single-season at Newberry
