Wolves bested by Embry-Riddle

NEWBERRY – An unrelenting offense from Embry-Riddle caused issues for the Wolves in a 23-5 loss at Setzler Field on Sunday afternoon.

AstroTurf SAC Offensive Player of the Week Sophie Moore put the Wolves (1-1) on the board with the help of Rachel Dillon to chip away at the Eagles (3-0) 4-0 lead with 20:12 left in the first stanza.

Newberry would see a pair of goals from Helen Kuhn and Dillon to dent the Eagles' advantage 8-3. Maegan Williams would round out Newberry's scoring efforts in the first period with a goal off a free position attempt to head into halftime trailing 11-4.

A lone goal from Williams at the 11:40 mark would be the Wolves only score of the second period. Williams' pair of goals led Newberry's offense in the contest. Embry-Riddle poured on 12 goals in the second to come away with the 23-5 win.

The Eagles bombarded the Wolves in goal with 43 shots compared to Newberry's 12. Reigning AstroTurf SAC Defensive Player of the Week Brandy Bowman had a season-high 14 saves on the afternoon.

Dillon led the Wolves with five shots with two being on goal. Newberry finished the game with eight shots on goal compared to 37 from newcomer Embry-Riddle.

Newberry heads out on the road to face in-state rival North Greenville on Wednesday, February 21 at 6:00 p.m.
