Late goal propels North Greenville over Wolves

The Wolves return to Setzler Field on Feb. 24

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Newberry took the match up with North Greenville to the brink, but a late goal by the Crusaders' gave them the 11-10 win.


The Wolves (1-2) found themselves down 5-0 in the opening minutes of the first half. North Greenville's Rachel Kellogg would score four of the five goals. Newberry's Sophie Moore would come out with much energy, putting two points on the board for the team.


Newberry would go on to score the next five goals in the contest, bringing the team within two points of the Crusaders' at the end of the first half.


North Greenville would jump out to tally three goals in the beginning of the second half. With a back and forth battle, Rachel Dillon would even the score just a little under the nine minute mark.


Freshman Danielle Laguerra came alive at the seven minute mark in the half, giving the Wolves their first lead of the game. But, North Greenville had a cure and would even the contest just three minutes later. Without a goal the next three minutes, Kellogg would find a slashing Hanna Hawkins in the final seconds to secure the win.


Dillon and Moore would lead the Wolves with four goals each. Goalie Brandy Bowman finished the night with nine saves.


Newberry will return to Setzler Field to take on the Lions' of Emmanuel on Feb. 24 at 3 p.m.
