Newberry set to face the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte

Looking to repeat last season's success over the Royals

NEWBERRY – The Newberry women's basketball team will host Queens University of Charlotte on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 6:00 p.m.

  • Nicola Handreck reached 1,000 career points on Friday, Nov. 10th against Limestone in the Conference Carolinas-SAC Showdown.
  • Meg Essex needs 56 more blocks this season to tie recent Newberry Hall of Fame inductee, Tiffany Johnson at 225.
  • Essex has five double-doubles on the season to equal eight on her career.
  • Head coach Sean Page needs 30 more wins to reach 200 at Newberry.
  • Against North Greenville Hannah Lepaio and Meg Essex became the first pair of Wolves to record a double-double in 51 weeks. This is Lepaio's first double-double of the season.
  • In Monday's game vs. Mars Hill, Georgia Elliott-King set a career high in points with 19 points.
  • Newberry's bench exploded for 39 points against Mars Hill, a new season high.
  • The Wolves scored 31 points in a period vs. Mars Hill, a new season high.
  • Essex is 14 points away from reaching 1,000 career points, she averages 16.1 points per game.

QUEENS STORYLINES

  • Made first appearance in SAC Championship since joining conference in 2013.
  • Picked to finish ninth in the 2017-18 South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.
  • Relatively young squad; five freshmen, a pair of sophomores & junoirs, and four seniors.
  • Jr. forward, Lade Adepoju had a career high at Mars Hill with 27 points and 16 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
