JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Despite a strong first set showing, Newberry was swept by Carson-Newman 3-0 marking their fourth consecutive loss. The Wolves beat Carson-Newman 3-2 at home on Sept. 15.
The Wolves jumped out with a 3-0 lead to start the first set with a pair of attack errors from Carson-Newman and a kill from Toni-Anne Whitlow. Six ties occurred before Newberry pushed it to 14-10 off another attack error from the Eagles. Carson-Newman committed five errors during the set compared to three from Newberry. The Wolves continued to hold the lead throughout the majority of the first set but the Eagles clawed their way back to win 26-24.
Newberry had 15 kills in the first set, but only managed to tally a combined 12 throughout the next two sets. Zoe Dinkins and Sidra Triplett led the team with six kills apiece.
Carson-Newman silenced the Wolves with a 25-10 second set victory.
The Wolves were held to a .075 attack percentage compared to .327 from the Eagles.
Eleven errors from the Wolves in the third set contributed to their 25-12 loss in the final set.
Newberry continues its road trek with a stop at Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m.
