LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WOLVES
The team dropped to the Lions of Mars Hill University 61-58, on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves defeated the Lions 76-58 earlier this season in South Atlantic Conference play.
At the half, Meg Essex led the team in points with eight followed by Nicola Handreck and Colleen Leung who scored seven each. Going into the third quarter, the Wolves shot 66.7% from the line and 37.5% from the arch.
Essex finished the game with 21 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and three blocks. Samantha Creed finished with eight points, four assists, two steals, and three rebounds. Jaya Schultz led the game in rebounds with nine while Shelby Britten led the team in steals with three. As a team, the Wolves shot 60.0% from the line and 34.8% from the field.
LAST MEETING WITH CATAWBA
Earlier in the season, the team fell to Catawba College 62-55. At the half, Schultz led the team in points with six followed by Essex who scored five. As a team, Newberry shot 71.4% from the free throw line.
For the game, Creed led the team in points with 12 and rebounds with eight. Schultz finished the game with nine points followed by Essex who scored seven. As a team, Newberry shot 81.0% from the line and 30.0% from the arch.
SCOUTING CATAWBA
The Catawba College women’s basketball team defeated Carson-Newman University 82-78, in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Catawba controlled the entire first half, claiming as large as a 15 point lead midway through the second quarter. The Catawba Lady Indians held on to claim a 13 point advantage going into the halftime break.
Catawba shot 29-of-61 (47.5%) from the field while knocking down 7-of-15 from long range. The Lady Indians had a great performance from the free throw line, converting 17-of-19 on the night. Bri Johnson scored 31 points while Jada Huntley contributed ten points and seven rebounds. Serena Brown added 12 points of her own to the victory.
