Wolves look to continue hot start with twinbill vs. Emmanuel Tuesday

NEWBERRY - The Newberry Wolves' softball team is off to its best start in six years and will look to keep that season-opening streak going, welcoming the Emmanuel College Lions to the Smith Road Complex for a Tuesday doubleheader.

WHEN: The first game of the doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9. The second game will begin approximately 20 minutes following the completion of the first.
RECORDS: Newberry is 4-0 overall. Emmanuel is 1-1.

THE WOLVES

    • Newberry's opponents are hitting .189 against the Wolves early in the season.
  • The Wolves hit .322 in the opening weekend, led by four players hitting .400 or above.
    • Allison Van Atta led the Wolves with a .462 average, drivingin three runs on six hits, including her first career homerun.
    • Freshman Natalie Willis and junior college transfer Christina Linton each hit .429. Willis had two doubles and four RBIs in her six hits, while Linton had a double and a sacrifice fly with two RBIs.
    • Hailey Drawe had .400 and was perfect in 22 chances in the field.

THE LIONS

  • Emmanuel split its season-opening doubleheader at NAIA Point University on Saturday. The Lions lost the opener 4-2 before earning an 11-2 win in five innings in the second contest.
  • Kalen Callaway led the team with five RBIs on three hits, while Cheyenne Galloway notched four hits. Crystal Busbee had three hits and a steal.
  • Erin Harden has a 1-0 record in the cirle with a 1.40 ERA, while Martie Rodgers was tagged with the loss in the opener and has a 2.33 ERA. In 11.0 innings of softball, the duo has allowed 11 hits and 11 walks, striking out eight. Harden has also unleashed three wild pitches.
