Wolves travel to Tennessee to play Lincoln Memorial on Saturday

HARROGATE, Tenn.- The Newberry College women's basketball team are on the road to play Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves lost to the Railsplitters early in the season, 68-56.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WOLVES
The team fell to Catawba 64-45, on Wednesday night. At the half, Meg Essex led the team with six points and three rebounds. Colleen Leung scored five points, dished one assist and grabbed one rebound. Going into the third quarter the Wolves were down 36-17.

For the game, Essex finished with 14 points, five boards, six blocks, and one assist. Nicola Handreck finished with eight points, seven boards, one assist, and one steal. Samantha Creed ended the game with six points, two rebounds, one block, and five assists. Newberry shot 100% from the free throw line and 33.9% from the field.

LAST MEETING WITH LINCOLN MEMORIAL
Earlier in the season, the team fell to Lincoln Memorial 68-56. At the half, Newberry was down 35-24 with Creed leading the Wolves with six points. Essex, Creed and Shelby Britten all had one steal each with Essex having two blocks also. Jaya Schultz grabbed three rebounds, scored two points and had one assist.

For the game, Creed finished with 16 points followed by Britten with 13. Schultz led the team in rebounds with seven and Samara Hill led the team in assists with three. As a team, Newberry went 72.7% from the free throw line.

SCOUTING LINCOLN MEMORIAL
Junior forward Megan Pittman had her 10th double double of the year as she scored 13 of her 22 points in the second half to spark the Lady Railsplitters to a come-from-behind 70-61 victory over Tusculum, Wednesday evening at Pioneer Arena. Pittman had 22 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Lady Railsplitters. Jasmine Kelly and Rachel Griffith each had eight points while Josey Harding added in nine rebounds.

LMU shot 37.3% (25-67) from the field for the game and 69.0% (20-29) from the charity stripe. They went 0-8 from behind the three-point arc. LMU out-rebounded the Pioneers by a 48-30 margin. The win was LMU’s first season sweep over the Pioneers since the 2004 season and the first since the Lady Railsplitters joined the SAC in the 2006-07 season.
