FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 18 Newberry Wolves responded from a morning defeat with a 42-3 thumping of the Central Missouri Mules in the consolation bracket of the NWCA National Duals on Friday afternoon.

With the win, Newberry is now 7-1 on the year and will immediately turn around and wrestle No. 11 Upper Iowa at 5 p.m.

After a forfeit at 125 lbs., Newberry would rattle off five straight wins, starting with a high-tempo 15-0 technical fall by Jordan Simpson at 133 lbs.

Nick Lankford at 141 lbs. and Zack Dobbins at 149 lbs. each earned wins by decisions before the Wolves earned bonus points in the next two matches.

Alex Rice won a 9-1 major decision at 157 lbs. and Nick Young wasted little time at 165 lbs., pinning his opponent at the 2:10 mark to put Newberry up 27-0.

UCM’s No. 4 Archie Williams snapped the Mules’ streak of losses at 174 lbs., but Newberry’s No. 3 Huston Evans was dominant in a 1:42 win by fall to put Newberry up 33-3 and clinch the match.

Cody Brundage took a 10-5 decision at 197 lbs. and Patton Gossett closed out the dual with a win by fall in just 50 seconds at heavyweight in his first official varsity dual win.
