SPARTANBURG - The 18th-ranked Newberry Wolves will have plenty of confidence for their ride to the National Duals after making quick work of the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers on Wednesday afternoon.
Newberry moves to 6-0 after picking up bonus points in four of the five contested bouts. Newberry won four weights by forfeit and the match also had a double forfeit.
Nick Lankford put Newberry's lead at 12-0 after a 5:16 pin at 141 lbs. Newberry won two matches by forfeit before SMC's Daquon Wilson gave the Pioneers their only points of the dual with a first period pin at 157 lbs.
Nick Young put Newberry back on the winning track with a first period pin at 165 lbs., followed by No. 3 Huston Evans pinning Austin Thompson in less than a minute at 184 lbs.
Cody Brundage closed out the dual with a 15-1 major decision over Jackie Hughes at 197 lbs.
Newberry kicks off the NWCA National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Friday at 11 a.m. against No. 2 St. Cloud State.
