The team fell to Catawba College 62-55, on Wednesday night.
At the half, Jaya Schultz led the team in points with six followed by Meg Essex who scored five. As a team, Newberry shot 71.4% from the free throw line.
Newberry picked up the pace offensively in the third quarter and scored 18 points while Catawba only scored eight.
For the game, Samantha Creed led the team in points with 12 and rebounds with eight. Schultz finished the game with nine points followed by Essex who scored seven. As a team, Newberry shot 81.0% from the line and 30.0% from the arch.
LAST MEETING WITH CARSON-NEWMAN
Early in the 2015-16 season, the team tallied a major 73-69 win on the road against No.21 Carson-Newman.
Going into the third quarter, Newberry was down 35-27. Shelby Britten led the team in points with seven and Emily Perry and Samara Hill scored six point each. Kirsten Dunsmore led the team in rebounds with six and assists with three.
For the game, Creed led the team with 19 points followed by Perry with 16 and Nicola Handreck with 14. Britten had 11 points and one assist. Dunsmore grabbed nine boards and had three assists.
SCOUTING CARSON-NEWMAN
The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles recently defeated No. 11 Anderson 54-51. The win was their first road victory over a ranked team since Dec. 12, 2009.
Junior guard Kailyn Brooks led C-N with eight points and three rebounds while the rest of the team went 2-for-12 from the floor in the first 20 minutes. Heather Jankowy led all scorers in the first half with 10 points while Alexis Dillard racked up seven points and eight rebounds.
Kayla Newman led Carson-Newman with 12 points and Brooks chipped in 11 points, five rebounds and three steals. The Lady Eagles went 19-for-26 from the free-throw line in the contest. Jankowy finished with a game-high 16 points to lead all scorers. The trio of Jennifer Monroe, Nakia Young and Alexis Dillard finished with 10, 10 and 12 rebounds, respectively.
