LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WOLVES
The team picked up their fourth straight win after defeating Brevard College 75-50, on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Newberry improved to 9-7 overall and 8-2 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Going into halftime, Nicola Handreck scored eight points, grabbed two boards and dished out two assists. The team shot 75% from the line and 46.2% from the arch.
For the game, Samara Hill finished with 12 points, four boards, four assists, and one steal. Emily Perry scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. The team shot 89.5% from the free throw line and 41.0% from the field.
LAST MEETING WITH CATAWBA
In the 2014-15 season, Newberry overcame a late seven point deficit with four minutes remaining to take a 64-60 victory over the Indians.
The Wolves trailed for over 37 minutes until junior guard Samantha Creed scored 12 of the Wolves last 13 points in the game with her jumper giving Newberry the lead for good with 1:57 remaining in the contest. She finished with a game-high 25 points and six assists.
Haylee Lepaio had a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Zara Pearson also scored 11 points and had three assists on 4-6 shooting and going 3-4 from behind the arc.
SCOUTING CATAWBA
The Catawba College women’s basketball team fell to Lincoln Memorial 64-60 in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The trio of Bri Johnson, Jada Huntley, and Alexis Newbold dominated Catawba’s scoring in the third quarter, totaling 17 of the team’s 19 points. Catawba was led by Johnson who finished with 17 points and aided by 14 point outings from Huntley and Terri Rogers. Both Huntley and Rogers tallied eight rebound in the bout. The unit shot 20-for-58 (34.5%) from the field and just 4-from 15 (26.7%) behind the arc. The Lady Indians added 16-of-23 from the free throw line.
