HILTON HEAD ISLAND - Newberry women’s tennis team improved to 2-0 on their Hilton Head Spring Break trip as they defeated Dickinson 9-0 inside the HHI Motorcoach Resort.
In doubles competition, Amanda Carrillo and Vanessa Ortiz defeated Joana Nunes and Laurent Altschuler 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles match. At the No. 2 doubles matchup Elizabeth Williamson and Tara Lamers defeated Stuart Lemay and Madison Parks 8-2. The final doubles contest finished with Kelly McManus and Rebeca Martinez defeat Sarah Cantor and Emily Sprague 8-3.
At the singles competition Ortiz defeated Nunes in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. The No. 6 contest went the way of Newberry as Whalley earn a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Elizabeth Marin. Newberry earned a win at the No. 3 singles competition as Lamers defeated Cantor 6-1, 6-2. No. 2 singles matchup went the way of Carrillo earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Parks. Martinez made quick work of Lemay as she won 6-3, 6-0. The final match to finish went the way of Dickinson's Sprague as she earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lovaas.
The Wolves continued Spring Fest action against the Edinboro Fighting Scots tomorrow at noon.
