NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry Wolves women's tennis team delivered a strong all-around performance on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Coker University 4-1 in conference play.
The Wolves set the tone early by claiming the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. The duo of Renee Dorval and Yui Suzuki led the way with a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Margarita Roshka and Aina Miralles secured a convincing 6-1 win at No. 3 to give Newberry the early advantage.
In singles play, Newberry continued to build momentum with three victories to clinch the match. Hazel Vernon got the Wolves on the board first with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 6 singles. Lina Sarhan followed with a strong 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 3 position, and Miralles sealed the team victory with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 4.
Suzuki was also in control at No. 2 singles, leading 6-4, 5-2 before the match went unfinished, while Dorval held a strong position in her match at No. 5 before play was halted.
The Wolves will return to the courts to play their final match of the season before the conference tournament on April 11th to face off against Carson Newman in Jerfferson City, TN.
