NEWBERRY - The Newberry College women's basketball team returns home as they play host to Mars Hill on Saturday afternoon.
Seniors Kirsti Hawkins (Newberry, S.C.), Kaitlynn Pacholke (Tampa, Fla.), Haylee Lepaio (Bathurst, NSW, Australia) and Zara Pearson (Echucha, Vic, Australia) will be honored for their time wearing the Scarlet and the Grey in a ceremony prior to the game.

Newberry is currently riding a four-game winning streak, the second-longest of the season, after going on the road and beating the Queens (N.C.) Royals on Saturday, 53-49. With the win Newberry moved to 17-8 overall and 13-6 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Wolves are sitting in third place, one game up on Catawba. Newberry swept the Indians during the regular season. Newberry is also just one win away from securing a SAC Tournament home game for the Quarterfinals.
The Wolves debuted at No. 9 in the NCAA Southeast Regional Poll for Division II Women’s Basketball and the SAC has four teams total on the list. Newberry has beated four teams regionally ranked across the country already this season.
In the last game, the Wolves placed two in double figures as Samantha Creed had a team-high 15 points to go along with five assists. Jaya Schultz also had 12 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Mars Hill comes into the game with a 9-14 overall record and a 7-11 mark in SAC play which places them in seventh place. Mars Hill boasts the leagues top scorer in Camille Glymph, the junior has averaged 23.0 ppg for Mars Hill and scored 25 points against Newberry. The Wolves held her in check for a majority of the game before she scored 17 of their final points to win the game,65-61 back on Jan. 10.
Offensively, Mars Hill shoots the highest free-throw percentage at 75.9 in the SAC. They record a small number of assists per game at only 10.2. They rank ninth in 3-point shooting percentage at 30.8 but do rank fifth in team points per game at 69.1. Defensively, they allow opposition to shoot a high percentage from behind the arc at 33.1 percent. They surrender the second highest amount of points per game at 71.7.
For the Wolves, they come in shooting the highest field goal percentage at 43.1 percent. They rank second in assists per game at 15.4 and turn the ball over the fewest at 15.4 a game for a 1.0 assist-to-turnover ratio. Defensively, Newberry guards well and teams shoot the lowest field goal percentage in the confernece at 38-percent. They also allow the least amount of points per game at 59.0.
