WOLVES NOTES
- The team fell to 4-2 in the SAC after dropping to Lincoln Memorial 68-56, on Saturday, Dec. 19. At halftime, Newberry was down 35-24 with Samantha Creed leading the Wolves with six points. Meg Essex, Creed and Shelby Britten all had one steal each with Essex having two blocks also. Jaya Schultz grabbed three rebounds, scored two points and had one assist. For the game, Creed finished with 16 points followed by Britten with 13. Schultz led the team in rebounds with seven and Hill led the team in assists with three.
- Essex is first in the SAC for total blocks with 23 and Handreck is second in the SAC for total assists with 43.
WOLVES & TIGERS LAST MEETING
- In the 2014-15 season, the team defeated the visiting Tigers of Benedict College, 72-40 on Tuesday, December 30. Newberry led from start to finish as they opened the game on an impressive 16-0 run as Benedict didn’t score their first point of the contest until there was 12:33 left in the first half.
-The Wolves were led by a career night from Emily Perry. Perry topped her previous career-high of 18 points against Catawba earlier in the season by dropping 23 points on a blistering 8-10 from the field. She also tallied four assists and four rebounds.
-The Wolves had two other players in double figures as Creed had 17 points and freshman guard Nicola Handreck had 11 points.
TIGERS NOTES
- The team moved up one spot to fifth in the D2SIDA South Region poll this week. The Tigers went 4-0 last week, beating Erskine at home, before traveling to Florida for wins over Palm Beach Atlantic, Saint Leo and Lynn.
-Benedict’s KaDeeja Vaughn was named the Player of the Week and Regime McCombs was selected the Newcomer of the Week, announced by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) last week.
-McCombs totaled 46 points and averaged 11.5 a game to help Benedict to a 4-0 week. Vaughn finished the week with 42 points (averaging 10.5 a game), 24 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks
