FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 14 Newberry College Wolves took the last four bouts of the dual, including an overtime victory at heavyweight to edge the Central Missouri Mules, 22-18, in Newberry’s finale at the 2015 NWCA National Duals.

Newberry ends the event with a 7-3 overall record, going 1-2 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Friday.

UCM conceded a forfeit, but won the first five contested matches, including a run of three major decisions. Newberry lost 125 lbs. and 165 lbs. by single points, giving the Mules an 18-6 lead with only four bouts remaining.

Joe Pittman (Forsyth, Ga.) powered to a 10-1 major decision at 174 lbs. to cut into the deficit and Jared Holliday (Burlington, N.J.) picked up an emphatic first period pin at 184 lbs., narrowing the Wolves’ disadvantage to 18-16.

Huston Evans (Springfield, Ohio) picked up his third win of the day at 197 lbs. with a 10-4 decision, giving Newberry its first lead of the day at 19-18 and setting up the Wolves’ second winner-take-all heavyweight bout of the day.

Cody Brundage (Chapin, S.C.) suffered a near fall early in the bout, but fought back and forced overtime with a late stall call against his opponent. Brundage got a takedown 40 seconds into the sudden victory period, picking up an 8-6 decision and giving Newberry the 22-18 victory.
