Newberry is coming off a lopsided 63-44 win against Queens (N.C.) at home on Wednesday night to move their record to 13-6 overall and 9-4 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Wolves have now won four of their last five games with all of the wins coming against SAC foes.

In the last game, the Wolves were led by Haylee Lepaio (Bathurst, NSW, Australia) who had 11 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high five assists. Emily Perry (Nambour, Qld, Australia) was also perfect from the field, including 4-4 from 3-point range, to tie for a game-high 16 points. The Wolves were down 12-6 but used a 19-2 run to push their lead to double digits and would maintain a big lead for the rest of the contest.

Newberry’s defense limited an opponent to less than 50 points for the first time since a Jan. 3 win over Tusculum College, 74-41. The win marked the first time all season when an opponent shot a higher field goal percentage and Newberry was still able to pull out the win. Queens shot 41.9 percent to Newberry’s 40.0 percent. Newberry was previously 0-5 in such games. The victory also kept the Wolves undefeated on Wednesday nights as they are now 5-0 compared to their 5-4 (3-3) record on Saturday afternoons.

The last time Newberry and Anderson met, the Trojans snuck out of Eleazer with a 64-59 victory. Anderson and Newberry boast the top two defenses in terms of shooting percentage as Wolves’ opponents are shooting 36.5 and Anderson’s are shooting 37.7. The Trojans should have an advantage on the glass as they are second in the conference at 43.8 rpg to Newberry’s ninth place 36.6. Anderson outrebounded Newberry 47-36 back on Dec. 6 and held the Wolves to 35 percent shooting from the field. The Trojans only shot 36.7 percent and the difference came down to second chance points with Anderson winning the battle 15-7.

Newberry and Anderson both typically shoot the ball well as they both average over 40 percent and are in the top four in 3-point attempts and percentage. They share the ball extremely well as Newberry averages 15.2 assists per game and Anderson averages 13.4, second and fourth in the SAC.
