NEWBERRY - The Newberry College men's basketball team looks to bounce back from a 92-86 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday as they travel to take on the Brevard College Tornados on Saturday afternoon inside Boshamer Gymnasium at 4 p.m.
Last time out, Newberry fell to Lenoir-Rhyne for only its second loss on the season. Demarkus Smith tallied 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting and a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. This was his fourth consecutive game scoring more than 20 points. Mitch Riggs added 17 points and four rebounds and Gerald Evans contributed 10 points and six assists.
On the season, Newberry remains second in South Atlantic Conference action at 7-2. Smith averages 16.1 points per game and 3.8 rebounds. Riggs pours in 12.7 points per game to compliment his 3.0 assists per game. Evans continues to lead the team in rebounds with 4.2 and assists with 3.9.
The Tornados have lost to Newberry already this season in Newberry, 101-72. They are led by Darius Moose with 18.6 points per contest and Trevon Shaw with 16.3 points per game. Miles Leathers tallies 7.9 points per game and averages a team-high 5.3 rebounds per game.
Following the game on Saturday, the Wolves begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday January 21 against the Coker Cobras at 7 p.m.
