Box Score BREVARD, N.C. – The Newberry Wolves were caged up by the Brevard Tornados in Tuesday’s South Atlantic Conference matchup. Newberry struggled to take advantage of opportunities, as the Wolves were plagued by hitting errors. Newberry falls to 6-6 overall on the year, but 0-4 in South Atlantic Conference play, while the Tornados of Brevard improve to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in SAC play. Set scores for Newberry were 21-25, 19-25 and 25-27.

Three Wolves tied for the team lead in kills with middles Alexus Horton and senior Jessica King, along with sophomore Logan Hayward all accounted for seven kills apiece, accumulating 62% of the Newberry’s total kills. Libero Elayni Stokes totaled 20 digs in the match.
The Tornados held the Wolves at bay, only allowing Newberry to hit .043 as a team by forcing 29 errors. However, Newberry did manage to blow the Tornadoes away in every major statistical category, including kills (34), assists (32), digs (49) and team blocks (9).
The first saw a huge Brevard advantage right off the bat as the Tornados immediately held a 7-1 lead. After finding themselves trailing 16-8, the Wolves put a comeback together, but it was too late, as Brevard picked up a kill by Rachel Ruble to finish the set 25-21. Hayward and Horton compiled a trio of kills apiece, while Stokes tallied seven digs.
Newberry got off to a good start in the second frame, jumping out to a 5-2 lead, but later found themselves down 18-11. That seven point advantage would be all the Tornados would need as they went on to take the set 25-19.
The Wolves started to howl in the third set, as they put up a last all out effort to come from behind to tie the set at 17-all. They would late take a 25-24 lead, but two attack errors and another kill by Ruble ended the set at 27-25 and the Tornados took the sweep. King had an outstanding set, totaling four kills in seven attempts without a miscue, while Horton, freshman Madison Hargraves and senior Holly Brisson each put away three kills. Stokes would amass nine digs in the set.
The Wolves look to right the ship this weekend as the play host to Coker Friday at 7 p.m. and Wingate Saturday at 2 p.m.
