[Box Score]
The Newberry offense was held to two hits as the Royals opened the doubleheader with a shutout victory over the Wolves.
The Wolves' first base runner came in the second as freshman Mallory Gerndt (Burke, Va.) singled, but was left stranded after a pop out and ground out following her at-bat. The third inning saw sophomore Lanier Paul (Buford, Ga.) reach on a walk and soon move to second on a wild pitch. The Wolves' catcher found herself stuck at second after three-straight outs closed the inning.
Queens' offense, which had been quiet in the early innings, found life in the fifth with five runs on four hits.
The seventh saw Newberry's best chance to score as junior Gabby Bedard (Winder, Ga.) doubled to lead off the frame. A walk and a double steal put runners on second and third, before Gerndt drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Queens managed to shutdown the Wolves with two strikeouts and a line drive out to left field wrapping up the first game.
