Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Newberry softball team fell in a pair of non-conference games Saturday at the Peeler Complex, falling 3-1 to No. 23 Barry and 2-0 to host Georgia College.
Junior Ashlen Ayres (Kennewick, Wash.) led the Wolves on the day with three hits, while senior Danielle Basch (Muskegon, Mich.) drove in Newberry's lone run.
Barry improves to 15-6 and Georgia College moves to 19-5, while the Wolves fall to 13-9 on the season.
Newberry opens conference play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. first pitch against Brevard.

Ayres and senior Katie Capobianco (Coconut Creek, Fla.) each recorded two hits in the Wolves' loss to the ranked Buccaneers.
The Bucs opened day with a run in the first, before adding a second in the third inning. The Wolves offense saw a small spike in the bottom of the third when with two outs Ayres legged out an infield single. Ayres continued to run as she scored on a double to left center from Basch.
Barry tacked on an insurance run in the fifth to put away the Wolves in Newberry's third game of the Georgia College Round Robin.

Junior Madison Burnett (Pickens, S.C.) picked up four strikeouts in a losing effort against Georgia College in the second game of the day for the Wolves.
The Wolves looked to threaten in the first when Basch doubled to right in the first, but was left stranded at second. It wasn't until the fourth that the Bobcats found themselves on the scoreboard thanks to a home run to left field.
Newberry only managed to string together multiple hits in one inning as Ayres led off the sixth with an infield single. A double play emptied the bases for junior Gabby Bedard's (Winder, Ga.) two-out single to right.
Georgia College put the game on ice in the bottom of the sixth, scoring their second run of the evening.
