HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Newberry bats stayed quiet as the Wolves dropped both ends of a SAC doubleheader to Lincoln Memorial at Neely Field on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Ashlen Ayres (Kennewick, Wash.) was the only Newberry player to notch multiple hits on the day as the Wolves were shutout 4-0 in game one and 8-0 in a six inning second game.
The Wolves fall to 17-17 overall and 4-6 in South Atlantic Conference play, while the homestanding Lady Railsplitters improve to 21-10 and 7-3 in SAC.
Newberry travels to Wingate on Tuesday for a doubleheader with a 1 p.m. scheduled first pitch.

Junior Madison Burnett (Pickens, S.C.) struck out a pair, while Ayres and freshman Hailey Drawe (Oceanside, Calif.) each recorded a hit in the Wolves game one loss to the Lady Railsplitters.
Newberry looked to score in the first with Ayres on second and junior Gabby Bedard (Winder, Ga.) at first. With two runners on and one out, the Wolves saw a fly out and strikeout end the frame.
Drawe recorded the second and final hit of the game for the Wolves in the top of the second, and was soon joined on the bases by freshman Madison Tepfenhart (York, S.C.), but a pair of force outs at third and a ground out ended the threat for Newberry.
LMU scored two in the third, while adding a single run in both the fourth and sixth innings to earn the game one victory.

Ayres was one of four Wolves to record a hit in the second game of the doubleheader, which the Wolves dropped in six innings.
Lincoln Memorial plated five in the bottom of the first, before adding two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
The Wolves placed a runner on base in each of the games' six innings, but were unable to get beyond first base on during the finale.
