[Box Score]
Bedard led the Wolves at the plate with three hits, while Burnett struckout seven in the Wolves game one victory over the Lady Indians.
The Wolves pushed across the first run of the day in the second inning after senior Leah Hosking (Williamston, Mich.) singled down the left field line. A sac bunt by Basch moved Hosking to second with one out.
Catawba threw away the first run of the game as freshman Hailey Drawe reached on a throwing error by the Lady Indians' shortstop, which sailed out of play. The error allowed for Drawe to reach second and Hosking to score the opening run.
The Lady Indians managed to plate a run in the sixth, before the two sides went scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings.
With sophomore Casey Nellums (Duluth, Ga.) starting the inning on second, Bedard delivered a bunt single. The tight play at first saw a throwing error move Bedard to second and allowed Nellums to score the winner.
Game Two: Newberry 1, Catawba 0 (8 innings)
[Box Score]
The Wolves were one hit in the second game of the doubleheader, but strong pitching from Middleton allowed Newberry to push the game to extra innings.
Newberry left a pair of runners stranded in three innings, but it wasn't until the eight that Newberry was able to take advantage of a runner in scoring position.
The eighth started with the Lady Indians putting runners on first and third with one out. A hard hit ground ball found the glove of Drawe and was turned into the second out of the frame. With two outs and runners on second and third, Middleton froze Kristen Stinnard for the third out of the inning.
The bottom of the frame saw senior Katie Capobianco (Coconut Creek, Fla.) placed on second, before she advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior Ashlen Ayres (Kennewick, Wash.). Capobianco dashed home one pitch later as Basch bunted her home to complete the sweep.
