Game One: Newberry 9, Erskine 3
[Box Score]

Newberry cruised to victory over the Flying Fleet in game one as sophomore Casey Nellums (Duluth, Ga.) finished the game 3-4 with two doubles.

The Wolves started off strong as Ayres led off the first inning with a double. After stealing third, Ayres scored when junior Gabby Bedard (Winder, Ga.) grounded out to second base. The Wolves continued to add to their lead in the top of the third inning when Nellums doubled, later advancing to third on an error. Two more runs scored off of an error and a passed ball.

Erskine did not remain silent for long, fighting back to score three runs. Junior Brittany Middleton (Lizella, Ga.) only allowed four hits Erskine's offensive threat, striking out three in the bottom of the third.

Senior Leah Hosking (Williamston, Mich.) hit her second home run of the season in the fifth inning before Newberry added five more runs off of five hits to secure a comfortable lead of 9-3.

Middleton pitched seven complete innings while striking out eight. Middleton is now 6-0 on the season.

Game Two: Newberry 4, Erskine 3
[Box Score]

The Wolves held on for the sweep as Erskine threatened in the bottom of the seventh of game two.

Senior Danielle Basch (Muskegon, Mich.) went 3-4 in the second half of the doubleheader with one RBI.

Junior Cassie Harrell (Williamston, N.C.) led off the third inning with a walk, before advancing on a single from senior Katie Capobianco (Coconut Creek, Fla.). A single later in the inning from Ayres would score Harrell.

The Flying Fleet answered quickly in the bottom of the third to score one off of three hits and a sacrifice.

The score remained tied at one until the top of the fifth when Harrell led off the inning with a single. Freshman Hailey Drawe (Oceanside, Calif.) followed Harrell with a single of her own to place runners on first and second.

Ayres grounded out, but managed to score Harrell in the process. Basch would follow Ayres' RBI with one of her own, plating Drawe on a double. Newberry would add one more in the top of the sixth to make the score 4-1.

The Wolves' defense held the Flying Fleet in check until the bottom of the seventh when with a runner on base, Christine Long hit a home run to plate a pair of runs. Sophomore pitcher Hannah Blakley (Manning, S.C.) ended the Erskine threat by inducing a game ending ground out.
